Computed Tomography (CT) Technicians use computerized tomography scanners to produce cross-section images of patients’ internal organs and tissues for the diagnosis of medical issues. This job-oriented paramedical training program helps students acquire key CT scanning skills in operating the scanner, recording images and handing over the records to the concerned senior doctors. These professionals work under the guidance of qualified doctors / radiologists carefully following instructions provided by physician or radiologist.
The first year of the syllabus comprises of an intensive study of General Anatomy & Physiology (Cytology, Histology, Osteology and basics of all organs of body) and detailed study of skull, brain, and the spinal cord. Students study the basics of relevant pathology, pharmacology and microbiology and the drugs used during CT scan in addition to radio physics, radiographic positions and radiation hazards, hand hygiene and prevention of cross infection. Basic life support (BLS) and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) also form a part of the first year curriculum.
The second year curriculum comprises of details of relevant surgical & medical conditions, nursing procedures (recording the vitals, IM/IV/SC injection, oxygen therapy, nebulization and IV infusion), CT physics, slice anatomy, CT positioning, CT guided procedures, bio-medical physics of CT scan machine & development of CT film etc.
In addition all students are also thoroughly trained in basic computer skills, communication skills and soft skills such as interpersonal interaction skills and moral education that makes them overall employable individuals.
