Department of Respiratory Medicine, ELMC&H, Era University, Lucknow today organized an inaugural ceremony of State Chapter U.P Cell of National Academy of Medical Sciences at 12:00 noon in Mini Auditorium of the University Building. The event was graced by honorable Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) S.K Sarin, President, National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) & Director cum Chancellor, Institute of Liver and BiIlary Sciences (ILBS), Guests of Honor, Dr. Saroj Chooramani Gopal, Immediate Past President, National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) and former Vice Chancellor of, KGMU, Lucknow, Dr. Digambar Behra, President Elect of National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), Dr Umesh Kapil, Secretary, National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), LT. Gen Dr. Bipin Puri, Vice Chancellor, KGMU, Lucknow, Prof. (Dr.) R.K. Dhiman, Director, Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, and Prof (Dr) Farazana Mahdi, Pro Vice Chancellor, Era University, Lucknow.
The program started with the welcome address by Dr. Anand Verma, Department of Respiratory Medicine followed by the lighting of the Lamp by all the dignitaries. Prof. Rajendra Prasad, Convener, State Chapter (UP), National Academy of Medical Sciences and Director, Medical Education, Department of Respiratory Medicine, ELMC&H, Lucknow in his address mentioned that this is the first State Chapter Cell that is being established in the State of Uttar Pradesh, and the function of this cell will be to improve all the activities of National Academy of Medical Sciences in state of Uttar Pradesh including providing opportunity to update knowledge/skills/practices of health professionals, to have effective academic networking with professional bodies/organizations/state health/NGO/stake holder, to assist the state health authorities by identifying important local health policy issues and develop concept/white paper/policy paper for policy makers in the state. Prof R.K Dhiman, Director, Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow in his address congratulated Dr. Rajendra Prasad for starting cell of UP chapter of NAMS and emphasized on how the involvement of younger doctors should be encouraged. LT. Gen Dr. Bipin Puri, Vice Chancellor, KGMU, Lucknow addressed the audience and said that it was a pleasure for him to be a representative of KGMU for this inaugural function of up state chapter. He spoke on how NAMS was started in 1961 and discussed about milestone of the academy. He further spoke on how collateral thinking is the need of the hour and NAMS is working towards achieving it. He mentioned on how research is an integral part of NAMS and that too translational research. He then explained on how the data is the new currency in this world which should be used to take research to a new level and that a multi centric and collaborative work is the need of the hour.
Dr Saroj Chooramani Gopal, Immediate Past President, National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) and former Vice Chancellor of, KGMU, Lucknow in her address thanked Dr. Rajendra Prasad for inviting her and said that we have to bring all members together and decide what needs to be done as per the current requirement of the state. She spoke on how the academy did a wonderful job to identify Dr. Rajendra Prasad as convenor and that he is a dynamic person and is best suited for the job. She further spoke on the value of research in regenerative medicine, personalized medicine and genetic medicine so that we come up with treatments for untreatable diseases. Dr. Digambar Behera, President Elect, National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) thanked Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Rajendra Prasad and management for inviting him and mentioned about broad spectrum of activities of NAMS and how they are different from others. The Secretary, National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) Dr. Umesh Kapil also thanked Pro Vice Chancellor of Era University for providing helping hand to Dr. Rajendra Prasad for organizing NAMS activities. He then requested Dr. Prasad to do networking of all medical colleges and start CME program sponsored by NAMS. Dr Farzana Mahdi, Pro Vice Chancellor of Era University welcomed all the dignitaries and faculty members and expressed desire of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Abbas Ali Mahdi to thank all the members of NAMS as he could not attend the function due to his prior commitments. Prof. Farzana Mahdi spoke on how excellence cannot be compromised in education and that we are constantly working on it. She further added that NAMS has already sponsored two CME’s at Era University and in future also we will continue to organize these types of CME’s. The chief guest of the occasion Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Sarin, President, National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) & Director cum Chancellor, Institute of Liver and BiIlary Sciences (ILBS) in his address again thanked Era university for bringing the new Era. He mentioned that Uttar Pradesh has so many institutes and UP state chapter will become one of the best with the convenor like Dr. Rajendra Prasad who is exemplary in his work. This was followed by the distribution of the Mementos to all the dignitaries as a token of appreciation. The event came to an end by the vote of thanks proposed by Dr Jamal Masood Principal & CMS, Era’s Lucknow Medical College & Hospital, Lucknow.
