Era’s Medical College achieves another milestone as FIRST Baby-Friendly Facility, Pledges Enhanced Care for Mothers and Infants
LUCKNOW, UTTAR PRADESH, 24/04/2024 – Era’s Lucknow Medical College and Hospital, Era University, Lucknow proudly announces its initiative towards a Baby-Friendly Hospital, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to providing optimal care for mothers and infants. This achievement highlights Era's dedication to upholding the highest standards of maternal and infant health, promoting breastfeeding, and ensuring the well-being of newborns.
The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), a global program launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), aims to support breastfeeding and provide evidence-based care to mothers and babies. Hospitals and healthcare facilities that adhere to the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, as outlined by BFHI, are designated as “baby-friendly”. These ten steps include practices such as helping mothers initiate breastfeeding within one hour of birth, practising keeping mother and baby together soon after birth and providing support for breastfeeding mothers after they leave the hospital. The BFHI aims to improve breastfeeding rates and the health outcomes of infants and mothers worldwide.
Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Era University, Lucknow, Dr. Prof. M.M.A. Faridi, called breastmilk as “liquid gold”, not only for its deep yellow colour but also because it is so valuable for the baby and maternal health.
Prof. Dr. Farzana Mahdi, Pro Vice Chancellor, Era University, Lucknow said, “By adopting BFHI guidelines, Era University, Lucknow reinforces its dedication to offering comprehensive support to new mothers and ensuring the best start for their infants.”
