The Department of Optometry, Era University organized a Two Day “CME cum Workshop on Contact Lenses”. The programme was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Era University, Prof. Abbas Ali Mahdi. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Mahdi said that wearing contact lenses has many potential benefits and they correct most vision problems including near-sightedness (myopia), far-sightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism: blurred vision both far away and close up and presbyopia: blurred vision close up in aging adults. He said that recently many advancements have taken place in this field and contact lenses are used in many traumatic and burn cases to restore vision. He complimented the Department of Optometry for organizing the CME cum workshop for the benefit of students. He appealed to the students to use this opportunity to learn the advancements in the field of Optometry.
Mr. Gagan Sahni, Director, Silver Line Laboratories, New Delhi, conducted the workshop on “Specialty Contact Lenses and Myopia Control”. He said that contact lenses are thin lenses placed directly on the surface of the eyes. Contact lenses are used by over 150 million people worldwide, and they can be worn to correct vision or for cosmetic or therapeutic reasons. The worldwide market for contact lenses is estimated to be of billions of US dollars. Mr. Sahini said that contact lenses move with the eye for vision correction that can feel and look natural. Mr. Sahini also told the students that contact lenses do not fog up like glasses when outdoors, in low temperature work environments, or playing sports.
Mr. Vasid Ali, Care-Touch Vision Centre, Lucknow, spoke in detail about “Artificial Eye”. He emphasized the importance of use of an artificial eye under certain traumatic circumstances.

Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, Mr. Sunil Kumar Gupta, Head, Department of Optometry with faculty member of the department of Optometry, Mrs. Ragini Mishra, Mr. Jamshed Ali, Mrs. Namrata Srivastava, Mr. Prateek Sharma and Ms. Ramlah Akhtar also participated in the programme.
