Prof. A.K. Chauhan, Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, University of Iowa, Iowa City, USA, visited Era's Lucknow Medical College, Era University and delivered a talk on "Novel players in thrombosis and stroke". Speaking on the occasion he spoke about various factors derived from blood cells contribute to thrombosis resulting in diseases like stroke. He has studied various factors which can inhibit thrombus formation and ultimately that can result in the treatment of diseases like stroke. The lecture was organized under "Neuroscience Educational Week" celebrations which the Department of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine of Era University is observing from 29th October to 3rd November 2018.
Earlier welcoming Prof. Chauhan, Vice Chancellor of Era University Prof. Abbas Ali Mahdi said that brain is the most important organ of human body and although it receives every type of sensation including pain in itself doesn't have the ability to feel any sensation. He said that brain although occupies only three percent of body weight but consumes about twenty percent of the oxygen which we inhale and if there is any decline in oxygen consumption by a disease like a thrombosis then brain functioning is impaired.
Also present on this occasion were Prof. A.K. Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Ali Ahmad, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. A.K. Srivastava, Dean, Faculty of Science, Prof. Zeba Siddiqui from Department of Medicine and Dr. Tabrez Jafar, from Department of Molecular Medicine amongst other large number of faculty members, residents and students.
