World Sight Day was celebrated by the Department of Optometry, Era University, Lucknow by taking out a rally from the Kalam Centre, King George Medical University, Lucknow, to the Administrative Block of Era University.
The rally was flagged off by the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of King Georges Medical University, Prof. M.L.B. Bhatt in presence of Prof. Abbas Ali Mahdi, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of Era University, Prof. Vinod Jain, Dean Faculty of Paramedical Sciences, KGMU, Prof. R.A.S. Kushwaha, Chief Proctor, KGMU, and Dr. Ragini Mishra, In-charge of Optometry Department of Era University.
World Sight Day takes place every year on the second Thursday of the month of October for raising awareness about various eye-related diseases. More than three hundred students of Optometry of Era University participated in the rally in which they raised slogans to create awareness in the general public about blindness and eye related problems. Students also staged street plays (Nukkad Nataks) for eye care awareness in the masses at different places on the way from Kalam Centre, KGMU to Era University.
Flagging off the rally Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of KGMU Prof. Bhatt appreciated the efforts of the Department of Optometry in organizing mass awareness program of World Singh Day. He said that eye-related diseases are mostly preventable if timely treatment is initiated and for that such types of programs are highly beneficial to create awareness in the general public.
