A workshop on Chronic Pain Management and Palliative Care was organized by the Department of Radio diagnosis, Era’s Lucknow Medical College and Hospital, Era University Lucknow in collaboration with Cancer Aid Society, Lucknow. This event was graced by the chief guest Prof. Abbas Ali Mahdi Hon’ble Vice chancellor Era University. Guest speaker of this event was Dr. Sanjay Dhiraaj, Chief Medical Superintendent and Professor of Anaesthesiology, SGPGIMS, Lucknow.
Speaking on the occasion Prof. Mahdi emphasised the need of palliative care and pain management. He said that efforts must be made to start specialization and super specialization teaching programs in these important areas. He said that not only management of end stage patients is important but equally important is to educate and train the care givers as they also pass through great emotional distress. Prof. Dhiraaj spoke in detail on palliative care and said that proper care of the patients suffering from disease such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and other end stage diseases is very important. Dr Anurag Agrawal from Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Science, Lucknow, spoke about intervention in cancer pain and Dr. Sarita Singh, from the Department of Anaesthesiology King George’s Medical University, Lucknow, spoke on cancer pain and supportive care.
This program started with the welcome address by Prof. Jamal Masood, Principal and Chief Medical Superintendent of the Era’s Lucknow Medical College and Hospital and in the end Prof. D.P. Gupta, President, Cancer Aid Society proposed the vote of thanks. The program was coordinated by Prof. Taruna Singh from the Department of Radiotherapy and Dr. Piyush Gupta, Secretary, Cancer Aid Society and National Association of Palliative Care for AYUSH and Integrative Medicine and was attended by a large audience including members of Cancer Aid Society.
